Postpartum care at SRBC begins as soon as your baby is born. Our postpartum care and services ensure the best possible outcomes for everyone involved. We recognize the importance of infant-family bonding immediately after birth. We encourage skin-to-skin contact and perform exams on mom and baby together to ensure as little disruption as possible during the golden hour after birth.
Families will typically stay at our facility between four to eight hours after the birth of their baby. During this time, we will monitor you and your baby, help establish breastfeeding, facilitate family bonding, answer questions, help alleviate fears and concerns and provide education on what to expect in the days ahead. Safety is our first priority; our staff will watch closely for deviations from normal and make appropriate referrals as needed to keep mom and baby safe.
We believe that the first days after birth is a critical time for support and education. Regardless of whether you deliver in the hospital or at the birth center, SRBC midwives see our patients between one and three times in the first week. Care is individualized during this time so that each family has the support they need.
Postpartum care continues well into the first months of parenthood. We typically schedule an office visit with both mom and baby at three weeks and six weeks postpartum to ensure ongoing health and well-being.
